Laughter is the tonic, the relief…for pain
Charlie Chaplin

Cancer Treatment Center of America said “We were born with the gift of laughter. Laughter is a natural medicine. It lifts our spirits and makes us feel happy. Laughter is a contagious emotion. It can bring people together. It can help us feel more alive and empowered.”

What are the benefits of laughter?
According to Mayo Clinic, the long-term effects are;

Improve your immune system. Negative thoughts manifest into chemical reactions that can affect your body by bringing more stress into your system and decreasing your immunity. In contrast, positive thoughts can actually release neuron-peptides that help fight stress and potentially more-serious illnesses.

Relieve pain. Laughter may ease pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers.
Increase personal satisfaction. Laughter can also make it easier to cope with difficult situations. It also helps you connect with other people.

Improve your mood. Many people experience depression, sometimes due to chronic illnesses. Laughter can help lessen your depression and anxiety and may make you feel happier.

Medical Journal of Cancer Science & Therapy published a study entitled Effects of Laughter Therapy on Anxiety, Stress, Depression and Quality of Life in Cancer Patients “laughing therapy relaxes the muscles and improves breathing. It raises the pain threshold, increases tolerance and improves psychological well-being. It also increases friendliness and collaboration and facilitates group identity, solidarity and cohesiveness. By decreasing stress-making hormones floating in the blood, laughter removes the effects of stress. Some studies have shown that laughter therapy is effective on anxiety, depression, stress, quality of life, insomnia, sleep quality, and radiation dermatitis”
