Make A Legal U Turn

Some time ago while listening to General Conference one of the general authority's said something that resonated with me. He talked about how when we use GPS, sometimes when we get off course the voice on GPS direct us to make a legal U-turn. The voice reminds us to get back on track to where we need to go. The GPS also says calculating new route. So in life if we are heading in the wrong direction we need to redirect ourselves toward the lord.

This analogy reminded me of an experience Dan and I had in Southern Alberta Canada. We were on our way to Allen and Janet's (Dan's brother and sister-in-law) home in Claresholm. The GPS in this situation was quite off track in fact it told us to turn into a wheat field. I could tell before we turned into the field that it was actually a field and that it wasn't a good idea. Dan persisted and decided to listen to the GPS. The field luckily had recently been cut down. It was a wheat field, 4 months afterwards our car still smelled like burned cereal.

Sometimes we need to recalculate and change our direction, thankfully our spiritual GPS, the Holy Ghost, will never mislead us.

When we are in tune with the Father's will, he will direct us in to paths we should go.

Matthew 2:12
And being warned of God in a dream that they (wise men) should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

And yet sometimes we choose to be of the world and take direction from it because it seems more appealing.

Genesis 13:12
... Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent toward Sodom.

This decision that Lot made ultimately led him to live in the city of Sodom and Gomorrah and later his wife was turned into a pillar of salt due to this decision.

Genesis 13:13
But he the men of Sodom were Wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.

Such a sharp contrast from the Nephites who pitched their tents in front of the temple to hear the words of a man of God, King Benjamin.

Mosiah 2: 5-6
And it came to pass that when they came up to the temple, they pitched their tents round about, every man according to his family, consisting of his wife, and his sons, and his daughters, and their sons, and their daughters, from the eldest down to the youngest, every family being separate one from another.

And they pitched their tents round about the temple, every man having his tent with the door thereof towards the temple, that thereby they might remain in their tents and hear the words which king Benjamin should speak unto them;

Are we going in the right direction and keeping company with the correct people. Will the people we're keeping company with help us become better people and worship the Lord?

While on my mission in a small town called Mitchell Indiana, southern tip of our mission, we were tracking on a snowy day. Due to all of the teaching and invitations we'd received we didn't track often, we didn't have the time. While walking we ran into an older gentleman with beautiful white hair and blue eyes. He told us he knew who we were and what we are doing. He told us how important our task was. He told us that Satan was real and Jesus Christ and his angels were real too. He offered us $20 for a copy of the Book of Mormon which we declined. He wanted to give us something for the book because he knew what and who we were. He eventually agreed for payment for the Book of Mormon he would come to church the coming Sunday. We never saw him again and no one knew who he was. As we left him and we were walking away tears glistened on our cheeks and the spirit bore testimony we'd walked along side one of Christ's Messengers. Similar to the disciples after Christ's death and Resurrection

Luke 24:13
And behold two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus...
And they talked together...
And it came to pass, that, while they commune together and reasoned, Jesus himself Drew near, and went with them
But their eyes were holding that they should not know him

Who are we keeping company with (people,media...) and where are they leading us?

Would we be blind to the Lord too if he walked with us or would we recognize his voice when we heard it?

John 10:27 - 28
My sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they follow me
And I give unto them eternal life...

Are we far from The Shepherd's Heart and intent? Or  are we close to the Lord as John the Beloved at the Last Supper?

John 13: 25
He then lying on Jesus breast

Will we be able to hear and perceive his words and will?

An example in the Old Testament of an individual who made a legal u-turn namely Naaman in 2 Kings

2 Kings 5: 9-15
So Naaman came... and stood at the door of the House of Elisha
And Elisha sent a messenger unto him...
But Naaman was wroth...
... So he turned and went away in a rage
And his servants came near, and spoke unto him...
Then went he down...
And he returned to the man of God.

Are we making legal u-turns to return to the man of God, scriptures, prophets, apostles, prayer, personal revelation, listening to the Holy Ghost as it guides us?
